What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Potpourri

On Sunday I spoke of having a lot to share that's been  percolating, but today I just wanted to share a potpourri of what's been happening or what I'm thinking in no particular order... The other night our entire family went to see The Social Network .  It's the first time in forever that the five of us have gone anywhere together.  The boys have been so busy with working two jobs a piece, plus school, and all their church ministries.  We do things with Dustin or Jordan, but usually not Dustin AND Jordan.  Monday night we all went to the movie and it was awesome to be together as a family of five.  We loved the movie, by the way! Last night I went out with my three of my bff's and had an amazing girls night out together of dinner and talking til' the restaurant kicked us out after closing. God smiled on me by giving me the greatest friends in my life.  I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time, and I must say it felt so good.   I'm thankful f...

Huge wake up call

This past weekend I was at the retreat with my ladies and while checking into the hotel I saw a dear co-pastor friend of mine, Vicki Elliott.   We exchanged hugs and lamented over the fact that we still haven't gotten together since the last time we saw each other in January.  I asked how she was doing and she said she had just experienced a huge wake up call in her life.  Her father passed away, and she had recently spent some time at hospice with him as he was in his final days.  Now his passing wasn't the shocking part, for her Dad had a relationship with Jesus and she knew where he was headed.  The surprising part for her was the conversation she had with a nurse at hospice.   The nurse, also a believer, told her that the hardest part of her job were the experiences she had with some patients who didn't know Jesus, as they were dying.  Evidently there were some that, as they were actually making the transition of passing on would scream out thing...

Do you want some whine with your cheese?

So as I mentioned in my post on Friday I've been watching Sister Wives on TLC.   It's like passing a bad accident on the side of the road.  You just can't help but slow down and look. Watching it last night I was mostly noticing all the crying the three "wives" were doing over Robin (Kody's new fiancee) joining the family.  Robin was doing her own share of crying too, over "hurting the wives".  ::sigh::  I resisted the urge several times to scream at the TV. These women have become delusional.  They think this whole arrangement actually has redeeming spiritual qualities. What a crock.  I almost fell off my bed several times while watching especially when one of the wives said that Kody had "prayed about it and come home with a testimony about Robin."  Oh PUH-lease!!! They should have owned stock in kleenex they cried so much this episode.  But here's the thing -- they have chosen this lifestyle.  They have quite literally ...

Percolate

So there's a ton of stuff percolating in this head of mine. PERCOLATE:  " to show activity, movement, or life; grow or spread gradually; germinate." Be forewarned. It's going t o be unleashed in great verbosity this week.  Just thought I'd prepare all who dare to read my upcoming posts. Hold on with anticipation til' Monday.  In the meantime...we're going to have a phenomenal day at Celebration Church today.  God is going to show up and do His thing because we just let Him be God in His house and do what He wants .  What an amazing weekend I had with some of my Celebration women...I love being with them.  You know I went into this weekend more exhausted than I've ever been, and I was quite honestly tired when I came home but more in love with my CC family than ever before.  God is so good to me.  I am so blessed.  I don't have to talk myself into this...I don't have to call the things that are not as though they are in ...

Sister Wives

Savanna and Larry and I watched Sister Wives on TLC the other night.   I'm so busy I hardly have time to shave both legs in one day these days.  So why take time to watch what many call mindless trash?  It was like passing a bad accident on the road.  You just can't help but slow down and look. My initial reaction...something is really wrong with Kody Brown. Sitting there watching I said, "Man, this guy really has something wrong with him..."  ( "Duh!!!" Savanna says, incredulous. "Mom!!!  Of course there's something wrong with the man!!!  He has three wives and a girlfriend!!!  What more do we need to see to know there's something seriously wrong?" )  Well, yes, but there's something even more than that.  I'm telling you, I know it in my knower.  He's got a serious personality disorder.  Maybe narcissistic , and a great actor for sure.  I didn't get the feel that this was reality TV as I do with some other shows...

Orlando or bust

After prayer meeting this morning, I'm headed with my LC ladies to Pen-Florida Women's Fall Breakawa y in Orlando for the next three days.  It's going to be a great time!  Rita Springer is leading worship for the whole thing.  WHAT COULD BE MORE AMAZING THAN THAT??!!  I am so excited, it's going to be off the hook. Life has been crazy lately with more of a work pile up than I've had in a long time.  I finished what I needed to before leaving for Orlando, and guess what?  I'm leaving my computer behind!  Yep, really. As I am not a hobby blogger, I am here daily no matter what. (I'm even thinking of a way to set up blog postings after I have passed on or Jesus has come back.)   As such there will be something here that I've pre-set to publish just for my die hard readers on Friday and Saturday morning. Would I leave town and not leave you with something?  :::shudders:::  Of course not!
