What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

I know the peace speaker

"Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”  When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.   Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”  ~ Mark 4:38-40 (NLT)

This morning we awoke early to a text from our friend and church member, Doug Rice, letting us know that a tornado warning was in effect for our county, and that school buses had been pulled off the roads.  We immediately went in to tell Savanna, who was getting ready for school.  She was disappointed.  This girl LOVES school.

My husband moved a few things out of the way on the patio so they wouldn't come crashing through our sliding glass doors and for the next few hours we kept an eye on things by utilizing our cell phones and talking to our friend Lisa Currie.   (The TV went out due to the weather.)

Storms come in and out of our lives, but we are not powerless, even when our TV's go out!  The fact of the matter is we would not even be powerless if our cell phones were not working and we could not speak to friends.  We know the "peace speaker" and His power never goes out no matter how strong the storm gets!

I called upon the peace speaker this morning.  He has calmed the storm.  We still have a thunderstorm outside however it appears the tornado warning has lifted and we are just dealing with heavy rain.

I think I might even go biking later.

amen! we're called to do John 14:12, commanding the storms and diseases to go in the name of Jesus. That's demonstrating Kingdom authority..greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.

reminds me of when Jason Upton was doing live worship outside and a tornado came in. He started singing "tornado you gotta go in the name of Jesus" and it did :)
Amen - we are NOT powerless...not at all.

Deanna, I have had the song: Peace Speaker playing in my head for a few days. Thanks for the entry! Illy

God also provides protection for his children during the storm, according to His will. When my Dad pastored in Ohio, when I was in grade school, three tornadoes combined and flatened a lot of the town. Although homes around us were greatly damaged, we only lost a few shingles.

WATCH OUT FOR THE
NEW FACEBOOK SCAM!!!

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. I alerted Jordan and we contacted his friend and his friend's parents and sister to get ahold of him immediately to take care of his account. Jordan said, "Mom, you need to put this on your blog and let people know about it so it won't happen to ...

Have you chosen a word of the year?

Selecting a personal word of the year has been my custom for many years. The word is my theme of the year and something for me to focus on, to build my faith and to grow. Each year I look for ways to remind myself of the theme…everything from a decorative sign with the word, to a piece of jewelry. This year my word is resilient.  All my life I have had to be resilient, and some years more than others.   I know it is this way with everyone to a degree. No one is immune to pain or problems. But frankly, some people are more resilient than others.   I have been studying those who are most resilient and trying to learn from them. With 2017 coming to a close,I have things to bounce back from. There are parts of my life I’m absolutely slaying and other parts that are out of my control. If I could control it, I would have already given everything I have to slaying it.   The challenges remaining are out of the realm of me being able to change them asid...
