What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Sunday/Monday in review...

Today was a busy day at work and I was so incredibly tired after beach day yesterday but I did manage to get a lot done. We also went out to lunch at Logan's for Cathy's birthday. Good times! After work Larry wanted to see a movie tonight so we went to see "My Life in Ruins." I love Nia Vardalos...beautiful, talented actress and besides that she's Greek! :) After getting home from the movie at about 10:00 PM I took Maddie for a late walk. We went about one mile. Unfortunately she was a real booger and decided to squirm out of her collar and run. Two men who were standing outside helped me run her down and put her collar on and tighten it. She scared me to pieces...don't wanna go through that again. It's the first time she ever did that to me while on a walk. I'll be even more careful...can't imagine anything happening to my sweet Maddie. We took 400 photos at the beach yesterday. (Yes, literally) But here are just a few...I'll try to po...

A special moment...

Today was one of my favorite days of the year -- our church beach day/picnic/water baptism at Ft. Desoto Beach. Not many things make me as happy as floating on my pink noodle for hours until sunset and then sitting up on the sand as the sun goes down. More than that, I love the water baptism and celebrating changes in people's lives. Today we baptized 16 people . Marcus Danielson was one of them. His Mom took this photo (above) unbeknownst to me at the time when I was sharing a tender moment with him right after his baptism telling him how proud I am of him. I still remember years ago when he was just four and he came running towards me on the beach during the baptism and leaped in my arms and said, "Pastor Deanna...guess what? I've got God in my heart!" He had prayed the prayer of salvation at children's church that morning. He wanted to get baptized that day but Michele wasn't sure he understood it back then and wanted to wait until he was just a little o...

He wears a burgandy shirt now

Dustin was promoted to Supervisor last night at Cobb Theatres! We are so proud of him. He is now one of the burgandy-shirted individuals (other employees wear green) and tonight's his first night! Yay! They really, really, really like him there (who doesn't love him, though?) and he has done such a magnificent job. They have told Larry and I before when we've been there, "we just love Dustin!" and I answer back, "We love him too! Everyone loves him! He's an amazing young man."  I also become more smitten with Madeline every day. She is such a sweet dog. We have discovered by the way, that she is deaf. She was born that way. Many white dogs are de af -- it is a genetic thing. This makes me all the more glad that we were the ones to get her because she is being cared for properly . Many deaf dogs are euthanized because people believe they can't handle them or that they are untrainable. That's not true -- they just require a little extra ...

My three gems...and today's potpourri

Photo of my kiddos a few weeks ago when we were getting ready for Jordan's graduation. When we got home from work last night Larry wanted us to go on a date. We went to the theatre to see Glenn Beck's Encore of the "Common Sense" tour. It was excellent. I hope somehow, everyone can see it if they never got to the theatre to see it. It was so funny -- I laughed so hard I cried and at one point, I just had my face buried in a napkin and wiped the tears for about 5 minutes straight while I laughed. If I wouldn't have had my face in the napkin I would have laughed so loud the whole theatre would have heard me. It was THAT funny. But it was also very inspiring and I was very moved by many things he said. The message is so needed and when his book, "Common Sense" comes out in a few weeks I can't wait to get it! After the movie we went late night grocery shopping and watched TV and spent time together a few hours before bed. Today on "Fun Friday...

Come on in

If you were here, I'd invite you in for a cup of Paris tea and a chat about the things on my mind. I can't do that as some of you reading this are from Houston to Singapore, and some of you I wouldn't recognize because I've never met you before in person. So come on in to my virtual tea time today (this is the front door of my house) and hear a potpourri of what's on my mind, in no particular order. I'm glad summer is here although I don't like the fact that things get a lot hotter in Florida in the summertime than all year round, I do like the pace of the summertime and I love this season in the life of the church. For some reason while other churches seem to always experience a dip in the summer and few visitors or new people, we really grow in summertime. Although we have families that are gone each week on vacation we have always gotten a great influx of new people and by the time fall hits we're like, "WOW! We have really added a lot of new peo...

I laughed so hard I cried...

Larry found this video the other day and he and Dustin and I watched it and just kept laughing ourselves silly... Someone took the theme song from the show "Different Strokes" and replaced the theme music. It's the same exact opener, just with different music and when you watch it now, it's completely different. What a difference a music score makes...
