So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director. Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year. Mark Twain once said "if you love what you do you'll never work another day in your life!" I believe that's true. Not that a person who loves their "work" never gets tired or frustrated but by and large I really believe in this truth.
Last night we had 28 newcomers at our home...brand new peeps God has entrusted to us at Celebration Church and we couldn't be more honored to be their pastors and their church. What greater honor is there? God is good. All together we had 40 people total at the house last night when you count staff and families and a few leadership folks that were there to serve. We are so blessed and thankful for all God is doing.
It was a late night ~ in fact we didn't say goodbye to the last guests until 1:41 am (yes, seriously!) and we laid our heads on the pillow to sleep at 2 am. I'm not complaining! I love this life!
I began my day with a bike ride as I normally do and then after showering and getting some other church work done Larry and I went to the hospital to visit our latest Celebrator ~ Isabella Marie George ~ born yesterday. She's just adorable and I got to hold her for a few hours while we visited today with her and her Momma and Daddy, the proud parents ~ Chris & Kerry George. They are amazing folks that God has sent us in the last 9 months to CC. Kerry is a major in the army and also now serves on our worship team, and Chris is a Mpact Girls (formerly Missionettes) teacher extraordinaire. Isabella is baby #5!! They have four other amazing kids who are also a part of the CC family and we just love them to pieces. The entire George family is an amazing blessing to us personally and as a church. When I count my blessings, I count them 7 times.
We got back from our hospital visit, took care of some other agenda items for church, biked a second time (I'm up to an hour and a half a day now) and then got a call about my other job (NextJob) that our CEO wanted to have an impromptu conference call with myself and two other people. This is rare -- does not happen all the time so I knew something special was up. All of my contact is normally with my wonderful boss and regional manager, Kathryn, who you have met here on the blog. Normally people might be a little nervous about a suddenly called meeting especially with the CEO but I have no fear. I know I do a good job and if I'm being called in about something it's going to be good. One of my core values in life is a hard work ethic and to always give my best to any job I do. One of my other values is always respecting the authority of my boss, or other management, no exceptions. Therefore, knowing my place I rarely if ever have an issue in this regard. So, there you have it my friends, the secret to amazing meetings at work. Do what you do with excellence and respect those who lead you.
Seriously, I really believe the only negative reason I'd ever be called in was if the company was laying people off or shutting down and well, in our case at NextJob it's going anywhere but down, it's on an amazing growth track! There is a good reason for that -- it's the real deal. I guess one reason why it's so easy for me in some respects to do a good job and give respect is, I totally believe in this company, what we stand for, and our management team. We're flourishing and growing so I'm only in for good meetings. So I've been assigned a special project that the CEO would like to have the first half of accomplished by week's end. Looks like it will be a very busy week! Loads to do for Celebration, more to do for NextJob, and something amazingly special coming up next week which I'll blog about soon...stay tuned! Keep me in your prayers that I'll be able to accomplish with excellence, all that is on my plate this week. There is the reward of a job well done but there is an especially great reward coming for me next week. So excited.
In other news, Larry just made an amazingly low calorie diet coke cake! Whodathunkit? This stuff is AMAZING!!! Diet coke cake covered in fat free cool whip. Oh my stars - delightful!
