The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director. Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year. Becca and I are on day two of our journey today and we are traveling today from London Heathrow, to Africa. If everything was on schedule, we had a four hour layover at LHR this morning and I was most excited to take Becca to my favorite place there, Pret A Manger. They have THE most amazing croissants there, in fact last year on my way home to the USA I brought a whole bag of them. Needless to say if you are ever going through LHR, you MUST stop there and get a croissant and a coffee.
We will have traveled 8,713 miles, and 26 hours and 35 minutes by the time we we reach our destination today. In addition to covering us in prayer for safe travel today, please pray for a quick adjustment to the time zone. Our daily time schedule will be turned upside down and we'll have just a day to adjust and I believe we're going to do some ministry on Thursday too before the conference begins so just pray for us to acclimate quickly.
Remember that I'll be giving updates on my Twitter from time to time, as I can do that from literally ANYWHERE on my cell, so check the right hand sidebar here on the blog. Anything else I post from here through the time of our return will be live from Africa -- I do not have any more posts pre-scheduled. I will be writing here whenever I have internet availability. Some people wonder why I bother to post at all while on a trip like this and the truth is -- a lot of people pray for me during these times and appreciate updates. Please also cover our families in prayer while we are gone. We have learned from experience how important this is. Some of my family's greatest attacks have occurred when I've been away on a trip and there are times I've said I'm never going again and times they've not wanted me to go, but we keep obeying when God says go.
On Monday night I was reading the Word and reflecting on the trials that preceded this trip. Along with reading scripture I read a passage in Streams in the Desert that said this:
"We read in the book of Samuel that the moment that David was crowned at Hebron , "All the Philistines came up to seek David." And the moment we get anything from the Lord worth contending for, then the devil comes to seek us. When the enemy meets us at the threshold of any great work for God, let us accept it as "a token of salvation," and claim double blessing, victory, and power. Power is developed by resistance. The cannon carries twice as far because the exploding power has to find its way through resistance. The way electricity is produced in the powerhouse yonder is by the sharp friction of the revolving wheels. And so we shall find some day that even Satan has been one of God's agencies of blessing." Wow! The part that stood out to me was, "...the moment we get anything from the Lord worth contending for, then the devil comes to seek us." Africa is definitely worth contending for. I can hardly wait to experience the double blessing, victory and power!!! Thanks for contending with me.
