What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! Things I'm wondering

1)  Why doesn't someone on the AI staff get ahold of Crystal Bowersox and give her a hair makeover?  I am crazy about her voice, but the hair...I'm just sayin'.

2)  Is anyone really surprised about who was voted off last night?  (I won't print the name here in case any of you AI fans have it tivo'd  and didn't watch yet.)

3)  Why can't chocolate be less calories than lettuce?

4)  Why did anyone in Tampa complain about the cold weather this past year?  After my clothes sticking to me several times yesterday and fanning myself in church, I was totally ready to go back to wearing my thick socks and sweatshirts and sitting on the patio in front of the fireplace.

5)  Why can't more places be dog-friendly?  I was wondering exactly where they can go and found this great site.  Would you believe it lists scores of restaurants where you can take your dogs?  Amazing!  We take Max and Maddie to Bruster's for ice cream sometimes, as they have special doggie ice cream they give to dogs for free.  (No, I'm not kidding!)

6)  Why can't pets come to church one Sunday a year?  I want to do this in our church.  My husband still thinks I'm nuts for this idea, but if you pastor a church I challenge you ...ask your people this week, "how many of you own a pet?"  I did this during one of our church services and I am going to say conservatively that 90% of them had their hands raised.  I think it would be cool to have a "bless the pets" Sunday and everyone could invite their friends to bring their pets and you could pray a prayer over them.  Seriously -- I think the place would be PACKED.  A friend of mine told me their pastor has a "bless the dogs" service once a year and it's totally packed - like insanely packed!  Seriously think about this -- it could reach a lot of unchurched people, not to mention, bless a lot of pets...I'm just sayin'.  Stranger things have been done.  (If you don't believe me just turn on a few minutes of TBN.)

A lot of churches around here have "Bless the Bikers" day once the weather gets nice again and people start taking their motorcycles back out - people can come to the parking lot with their bikes, and get prayed over for safety on the road, etc...

Great point Leanne. And I have actually heard of some churches having "bless the bikes" (so they are blessing objects?) and I have thought, if we are blessing a bike, can't we bless a dog?

Can we please talk about what we're FOR, not what we're AGAINST?

I have developed a habit of listening to preaching podcasts while I’m getting ready in the mornings. Every day I listen to a sermon on line. I listen to people preach who are famous, some not so famous, some who are personal friends. Some challenge me, some bring change to my life, some refresh me, and some flat out irritate me. Although I like to look at the positive, today I do want to mention what irritates me. Because truly, it’s the fact that some preachers do not focus on the positive! Negativity is my complaint. Lately I’ve been listening to a preacher-acquaintance who has planted a church. He’s a great preacher and I enjoy listening to what he has to say, except for one thing. Each time he preaches, he casts a little vision for the church in each sermon. Now, I think that’s great. But the problem is the way in which he does that. Instead of talking about the positives of his church, he bashes everyone else “in comparison” to his new church. This is typically a paragraph out...
