What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! Speaking of intimate time...


Larry and I are leaving after church tomorrow afternoon to go to Tennessee for Valentines week! We are finally taking the trip that was given to us  by the church during  pastor appreciation trip in October, now that Maddie is healed from her accident. We will be away for a week putting everything (and more) in practice that I talked about on the blog yesterday. Can't wait! We're staying here.  It's a cabin in Gatlinburg, TN and we have the whole place to ourselves.  If you click on the link I just gave, go the left hand side at the bottom of the page to look at all the photos of the house.  It's amazing!  The photo above is the Master bedroom.

I'm consumed today with packing and getting last minute things done for church and our trip.  This past week I doubled up on all my work at the church, many hours longer than normal to get everything done before I leave so that I really can leave my work behind .  I can't even describe to you how much we need this right now and how many things have tried to stop us from going.  But we're GOING!  Kathryn also insisted I take the week off from NextJob.  She's amazing like that.  I told her up front when telling her about the trip that I planned on keeping the schedule of all of my appointments from our cabin in Gatlinburg but she said, "no, absolutely not!  You need this rest!!"   This week when I said she could still call me for a few things she was adamant about me getting "sacred time" as she calls it.  What a blessing she is.

I will, however, blog from Tennessee.  Writing isn't a chore for me -- it's one of the main ways I relax and let down.  It's as essential to me as breathing.  Larry and I will focus on one another, however we will both take time for ourselves there too and I can guarantee he'll watch a game or two on TV or something else by himself -- which is great.  We both need solitude and couple time  and both are sacred.

Unplug as much as you dare! Hope you have a 2nd honeymoon...or will this be the 3rd or 4th? LOL The cabin looks soooo romantic!! Totally have fun!!! You both so deserve it!

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Have you chosen a word of the year?

Selecting a personal word of the year has been my custom for many years. The word is my theme of the year and something for me to focus on, to build my faith and to grow. Each year I look for ways to remind myself of the theme…everything from a decorative sign with the word, to a piece of jewelry. This year my word is resilient.  All my life I have had to be resilient, and some years more than others.   I know it is this way with everyone to a degree. No one is immune to pain or problems. But frankly, some people are more resilient than others.   I have been studying those who are most resilient and trying to learn from them.
