What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

I made it!

What???

Lucretia Noble's White Chocolate Fudge Cake! (Lucretia is wife to Pastor Perry Noble, Lead Pastor of Newspring Church, Anderson, SC) My friend Pastor Tara and I read Perry's blog daily -- I highly recommend it! And he has highly recommended his wife's cake to everyone near and far. I mean the man RAVES about this cake like it's so good it could make a tadpole slap a whale. Seriously. So he put the recipe on his blog and Tara decided to go for it and make it and she too raved about it. You can read about her experience with making it here. So I said, "I've gotta see for myself what's going on here..."

I decided to make the cake tonight in preparation for a special ladies night I'm having at my home tomorrow night. We are having a dinner and I have lots of people coming over and I decided this would be the perfect time to try out this recipe. (If it flopped we'll still have plenty of other things but it doesn't look like it's going to be a flop in the least!) Just the icing tastes AWESOME. It makes a ton of icing so there's lots left over and I had some as well as Dustin and Casey, Jordan and Savanna. I can't wait to taste the finished product. I'll let you know what the ladies say about it! Here's the recipe:

LUCRETIA NOBLE'S WHITE CHOCOLATE FUDGE CAKE

CAKE:

1 box white cake mix
water
vegetable oil
eggs
(these three things above are dependent upon what the box mix calls for.)

1 package white chocolate pudding
1 tsp vanilla
3 oz melted white chocolate

ICING:

1 can vanilla icing
3 oz. melted white chocolate
1 tsp vanilla
8 oz cool whip

FUDGE FILLING:

1/4 c powdered sugar
6 oz melted chocolate ( semi-sweet or milk)
3 tbsp butter
2 tbsp lt corn syrup

DIRECTIONS:

Make icing first. Mix can of icing and white chocolate. Then add vanilla and lastly, mix in thawed cool whip by hand. Allow icing to refrigerate while making other layers.

Make fudge filling next. Heat butter until melted and then stir in melted chocolate. Stir in corn syrup. Lastly, stir in sifted powdered sugar to warm mixture. Allow filling to refrigerate while making cake.

Prepare cake mix according to directions on the box. Mix in vanilla, pudding powder, and melted white chocolate. Place cake batter evenly into 2 greased, round cake pans. Cook per directions on cake mix box. Allow cake layers to cool before putting cake together.

Putting it all together - 1st cake layer, fudge filling, 2nd cake layer, and then ice entire cake. Refrigerate cake until ready to serve.

CAUTIONS FROM LUCRETIA:

1) icing and filling need to be firm enough to stay on cake but soft enough to spread easily

2) make sure melted chocolates are mixed in well

3) make sure powdered sugar is sifted and mixed in well

4) I usually do not use all fudge filling in 2 layer cake. You can but fudge layer is fairly thick if you do.

5) I usually do not use all icing on 2 layer cake as it is also thick if you do, but some people like thick icing.

ALTERNATIVE: Above recipe makes average size 2 layer cake. Can double cake mixture and make deluxe size 3 layer cake with 2 fudge filling layers between each cake layer. I do not double icing and filling recipe if I make 3 layer cake, but if you like thick fudge and icing layers then you would need to double those also.

Have you chosen a word of the year?

Selecting a personal word of the year has been my custom for many years. The word is my theme of the year and something for me to focus on, to build my faith and to grow. Each year I look for ways to remind myself of the theme…everything from a decorative sign with the word, to a piece of jewelry. This year my word is resilient.  All my life I have had to be resilient, and some years more than others.   I know it is this way with everyone to a degree. No one is immune to pain or problems. But frankly, some people are more resilient than others.   I have been studying those who are most resilient and trying to learn from them. With 2017 coming to a close,I have things to bounce back from. There are parts of my life I’m absolutely slaying and other parts that are out of my control. If I could control it, I would have already given everything I have to slaying it.   The challenges remaining are out of the realm of me being able to change them asid...

Can we please talk about what we're FOR, not what we're AGAINST?

I have developed a habit of listening to preaching podcasts while I’m getting ready in the mornings. Every day I listen to a sermon on line. I listen to people preach who are famous, some not so famous, some who are personal friends. Some challenge me, some bring change to my life, some refresh me, and some flat out irritate me. Although I like to look at the positive, today I do want to mention what irritates me. Because truly, it’s the fact that some preachers do not focus on the positive! Negativity is my complaint. Lately I’ve been listening to a preacher-acquaintance who has planted a church. He’s a great preacher and I enjoy listening to what he has to say, except for one thing. Each time he preaches, he casts a little vision for the church in each sermon. Now, I think that’s great. But the problem is the way in which he does that. Instead of talking about the positives of his church, he bashes everyone else “in comparison” to his new church. This is typically a paragraph out...
