What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

True Church Stories - #1

Today begins a new series of posts here on the blog called, "True Church Stories."  Many people tell me I should share funny things that have happened over the years in church or associated with ministry.  These are stories I've shared in circles of friends that have provided some of the greatest laughs.  Here's my first and I hope you find it as funny as I do! The year was 1984.  I was still in Bible College at VFCC and I was traveling for the school, ministering in churches.  At the time, the song, "El Shaddai" by Amy Grant was all the rage.  It was on the top ten of the Billboard (Christian) charts, and was actually "Song of the Year" in 1983 at the Dove Awards.   Suffice it to say there was no shortage of this song as a "special" at churches all across the land.  I was no exception, singing this song often back then as I traveled and ministered. This particularly Sunday  I was ministering in an AG church in Allentown, PA and...

Do you really know?

Have you ever gone through something and somebody comes up and says, "yeah, I know exactly how you feel..."? Many people who do that have no clue how you feel unless they've been through the same exact thing.  And how many people have been through the same EXACT thing? We're not alone.  A big lie the enemy wants us to believe is that we're alone.  But, there's a difference between being alone and understood. Someone can sit right beside me, be "with me" in physical proximity, or offer support, but not really understand. I'm watching a friend go through this right now. I don't know how she feels.  That's why I ask her.  I know how I  think I might feel if I were her but I can't say for sure because I'm not. I can only ask:  "how do you feel?" and offer my love and prayers. If she asks what I think, I tell her.  But I don't offer it if unasked.  And we are close friends, but I still don't believe ...

What I'd like Judge Michael Andrews to know...

Multi-tasking is a way of life for most Americans.  On Monday I was scheduled for jury duty.  I went through the jury selection process on Monday with the possibility of serving on a murder case but ultimately was not selected.  Pasco County has taken great effort to make the whole experience as comfortable as possible -- providing free coffee, lots of books and magazines to read, and TV shows on several big screens.  I was pleasantly surprised to see Animal Planet on the TV as I took my seat.  As we began the morning, Judge Michael Andrews (Circuit Court Judge, Sixth Judicial Circuit, Pinellas & Pasco Counties) came and talked to us and gave an overview of the process and fielded questions and answers.  He encouraged us to share what we thought about the process, and noted that many changes including the coffee, books and other things provided were a result of feedback from previous jurors.  I thought that was great. So here goes. Judge A...

Restaurant Favorite re-created:
Crispers Southwest Salad

If you're like me you are exhausted at the end of the day when you come home from work and the last thing you want to do is get involved in cooking a big meal.  (That's why I love cooking on my day off.  Cooking is one of my favorite things to do but I dread it when I'm tired.) I had jury duty yesterday in Dade City and planned ahead the night before for something really simple for dinner as I didn't know when I'd get home.   I re-created one of my favorite restaurant items for our family's dinner  and most of the preparation was done Sunday night, allowing me to throw dinner together on Monday night in about 5-10 minutes! The following was my at home version of Crispers Southwest Salad, which is my favorite thing on the menu there.  It is served at Crispers with Jalapeno Ranch Dressing.  I couldn't find that in the store and made my own version at home using a bottle of Ken's Lite Ranch, and  1 jalapeno.  I washed and seeded the pepper, ...

Weekend Wrap Up

Yesterday was a great day at Celebration!  It started with our KidZone Ministries doing a presentation in the morning service.  They did a fantastic job and we can't wait to see what unfolds next!  Larry and I were surprised to have some special guests in the service, Blake and Dee Richert, with Carings Hearts Ministries.  They are missionaries now and are a couple who were/are very special to Larry from WAY back.  He met them when he was just a young teenager, coming to Jesus as Christian Life Church in Trafford, PA.  They were a big part of the church there and a true example to him in his growing up years.  This is the second time they've visited us at the church when they are back in the Florida area.  This time is they have made Tampa their home base for this season of their ministry so it's possible we will see them much more.   We went to lunch with them after the service yesterday and reminisced of many old times at Christian Lif...

Comin up...

Today at Celebration we're going to be featuring our children's ministries and highlighting all God is doing in KidZone.  In the past few months they have more than DOUBLED in attendance!  Amazing things are happening in there.  Can't wait to see what they are going to share today under the leadership of Pastor Adam and the Kidzone staff. By the way, thanks for the prayer regarding Kayte getting along with Max and Maddie.  We have been socializing them more and last night the three of them were actually in the same room twice without any leashes, and getting along relatively well.  Still not totally smooth sailing but 100% better than their first exposure to each other. I'm in for a crazy week this week and am just not going to stop to think about it or it will depress me.  I have jury duty this coming week.  Some say, "have fun with it and enjoy doing something different."  Well yes, and at the same time I can't just table all my work for a w...
