What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started inve

...you make all things new and I will follow you forward...

Our family after church...we changed out of our "Easter clothes" and got all comfy and went to our friend's, the Currie's, for lunch.  It was good and the best part of all was I didn't have to do anything.  :)   I just wasn't up to it this time with everything that's been happening.  Larry cooked a ham (he makes the best cherry glazed ham) and we took it over and Bernie did all the rest.  It was an amazing meal, and a great time as usual with our dear friends.

This is one of our kid's easter baskets.  We did four of them, one for Dustin, Jordan and Savanna and then one for Becca.  You will notice it's a laundry basket.  I used to do the little wicker pastel baskets but in the past few years Larry has a new tradition of giving them each a new laundry basket as they tend to get beat up throughout the year and need new ones.  And we fill it up with each of their favorite things -- everything from their favorite foods to candy, to shampoo, to cologne, or whatever.  I also made some gourmet chocolate covered pretzels for them too, covered in multi-colored sprinkles.  Those are their favs.  I think Becca was really surprised by her basket.

Larry and I also got a blessing on Easter Sunday morning besides realizing once again how blessed we are that Jesus rose from the grave.  Jordan stayed up all night (literally never went to bed) doing a makeover on our kids bathroom.   It's the one in the main area of the house and everyone sees that one and I've been wanting to change it from a beach theme to an Africa theme.  He stayed up all night, re-grouted it, painted it and had it ready in the morning with this note:

How sweet...and look at this...

Still have to add my special Africa touches to it, but looks amazing so far!  Jordan was such a blessing to me this weekend, on what was one of the most rollercoaster-ish weeks of my life.  I was in need of help yesterday morning.  My boys (now 19/20) literally did not leave me.  They were on the platform with me, escorted me off when I was done, took me to my seat, and out to the parking lot afterwards and never left me alone. It might sound crazy to some, but yesterday it was comforting to me.

Here are Max and Maddie when they woke up from a nap Easter morning.  They delight me more each day.  Maxie is fast catching up with Maddie in size.  They are my sunshine, everyday.  What did I do before dogs?

So, the past week is over.   I'm concentrating on getting well...on wholeness.  Nothing can deter me from that focus.   Everything else is irrelevant.  Let the winds blow...I'm headed for wholeness and pretty much putting blinders on to everything else until I'm there.   And THERE is going to be amazing, ladies and gentlemen.

Holding your arms up in faith. In your moments of weakness, you have an army of warriors lifting you up to the Father. I am expecting ONLY great things from God.
I completely understand PD. My dad deciding to cook dinner Sunday comforted and blessed me too. It's those small things...like your guys looking after you...that mean so much and speak volumes. It means somebody took some time, thought about you and followed the heartbeat of God and ministered effectively. I'm praying for more of this throughout the body of Christ.

WOW - what an amazing gift! What a wonderful expression of love! I can't wait to see it AND to meet the artist himself...

PD, whatever is going on...it's a distraction. I've been thinking about this for the past two weeks while reading your blog. I get distractions all the time...and then I look back and think-why in creation did I consume so much emotion and energy on that distraction when I should have been focusing on __________. Jordan is getting ready to leave. Don't allow the enemy to steal this time from you.

Some people will never understand this...

And that's okay. Just let us be as we lavish love upon the fur-kids of the world. It doesn't mean we don't care about people. We do care. In fact most of the people I know who are great pet lovers are also the greatest philanthropists. If you're not a dog lover, you might not understand the overwhelming intensity that many of us felt about Tank's reunion this past week. You might think we've lost our marbles. That's okay, we think you've lost your heart. ;)  Before I go on with this post, let me say that we were delighted that CBS 10 posted the video and article about Tank and his Celebration Church reunion yesterday. Click here to watch it. (But then come back!) If you haven't realized it, there is a revolution in America about dogs. Dogs have always been loved and known as the most loyal companions ~ "man's best friend". But things have gone way beyond this. Dogs aren't just dogs or friends anymore. They are family me

Fifty Shades of No Way

This weekend, the Fifty Shades of Grey movie will be released and millions of women are expected to flock to the theat er s.  I will not be one of those women.   As a leader of women , some have asked me about this movie. The following is my thoughtful response. Fifty Shades of Grey has topped best-seller lists around the world. The book series has sold over 100 million copies worldwide, and been translated into 52 languages. It set the record as the fastest-selling paperback of all time.   Is Fifty Shades of Grey just a harmless book or movie? Although n o one seems to be debating this fact, let’s first establish that it’s pornography.  And not just porn, but a genre that is even more dangerous for women. The book glorifies a female character that is controlled and abused by her partner.   Who is excited about this book and mov ie? Hmmmm….you might be surprised. Many women and girls in our churches have read it. Sadly, I am even aware of

Relevant Church doing something...

incredibly RELEVANT!

I just heard some news today that really inspired me. A church here in Tampa, Relevant Church is doing a new thing this month called the "30 Days Sex Challenge." (I've never visited the church but Pastor Trinity - our children's pastor - has visited or has met some people from this church and he was very impressed.) Realizing that this is a major element missing from some marriages (the frequency factor) their lead pastor, Paul Wirth, has issued a challenge for all the married couples to have sex for 30 days in a row. At the same time he has issued a challenge for all unmarrieds to completely abstain from sex. Of course we know the Bible says that those who are unmarried should not have sex in the first place but the point is, a lot of unmarried's aren't obeying the Lord's command to abstain and this is just one pastor's way of trying to get them to see that indeed, there is a better way! (God's way!) At the same time, many married couples are not
