What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Finally getting around to answering this tag...

I was given this blog award and was tagged by two friends eons ago -- like, before I ever went to Africa, but I was so busy I just never got around to posting it and doing this accompanying meme. So...better late than never! I'm going to try to post at least a few things that people reading really might not know about me...which is a challenge since I pretty much let it all hang out on my blogs and have for years. (SMILE) What DON'T you people know about me? Here we go:

Seven things I did before:

1) I worked in advertising compliance for an insurance company.
2) I was promoted a short time later and worked as an editorial assistant for the same insurance company.
3) The insurance company I worked for is the same one that Lorne Green used to do commercials for. Remember when he used to come on the screen and very somberly say, "THIS CARD CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE..." Yep, that's the company.
4) I used to work in U.S. Probations in Camden, NJ. You would not believe the famous sports players who were on probation! Seriously.
5) I never had any cavities in my teeth until I moved to Tampa. Then I moved here and more than made up for it... *sigh* I'm trying to be cavity free the rest of my life, hence my going two extra times a year for cleanings in hopes...
6) I had a miscarriage and have one child awaiting me in heaven.
7) I dropped out of kindergarten.

Seven Things I Do Now:

1) Co-pastor a church.
2) Teach piano lessons
3) Write a monthly column for Take Root and Write, called "Surive and Thrive Ministry Wives"
4) Contributing writer for a column called, "Behind the Pulpit" for the AG Women in Ministry's Publication, "Mobilized for Ministry."
5) AG women's ministries rep for Tampa.
6) Pastoring Partners Network
7) Drink a lot of caffeine to keep up with everything. :-)

Seven Things I Would Like To Do:

1) Go back to Africa as many times as possible.
2) Bring a person who is extremely special to me in Africa to the USA...permanently. (Working on this! Can't share details openly now, just pray.)
3) Build a church in Africa.
4) Go on a cruise with my husband.
5) Go on a vacation with my husband and kids.
6) Get a book contract.
7) Further my education as much as possible.

Seven Things That Attract Me to My Hubby:

1) He has dark hair.
2) He likes that I'm "sassy". (His nickname for me as well.)
3) He sees me as an equal partner.
4) He cooks.
5) He likes to surprise me.
6) He likes that I have a brain and wouldn't have married any woman who didn't have one.
7) He's funny.

Seven of My Favorite Foods:

1) Mashed potatoes
2) Seafood
3) Chips and Dip
4) Chocolate
5) Sandwiches
6) Soup
7) Cherry pie

Seven Things I Say Most Often:

1) Okay, okay, okay...
2) Dear Jesus in heaven!!!
3) WHATEVER!!!
4) YOU. HAVE. GOT. TO. BE. KIDDING.
5) I'm serious as a heart attack!
6) Shondi Picandi!
7) "This is Pastor Deanna...how can I help you?"

And I'm supposed to tag seven people with this award, and to do this meme, so here we go! If any of you friends were already tagged and already did this and I missed it while I was gone or something, forgive me and point me to your previous post so I can read it. :-)

1) Melissa at The Diaperheads and Broken Potterie
2) Tara at Destiny Driven
3) Michele at An Adoptive Family's Life
4) Sharon at A Hoosier Family
5) Debbie at Chocolate and Coffee
6) Aaron at Iron Sharpens Iron
7) Christelle at Beloved Mama

Some people will never understand this...

And that's okay. Just let us be as we lavish love upon the fur-kids of the world. It doesn't mean we don't care about people. We do care. In fact most of the people I know who are great pet lovers are also the greatest philanthropists. If you're not a dog lover, you might not understand the overwhelming intensity that many of us felt about Tank's reunion this past week. You might think we've lost our marbles. That's okay, we think you've lost your heart. ;)  Before I go on with this post, let me say that we were delighted that CBS 10 posted the video and article about Tank and his Celebration Church reunion yesterday. Click here to watch it. (But then come back!) If you haven't realized it, there is a revolution in America about dogs. Dogs have always been loved and known as the most loyal companions ~ "man's best friend". But things have gone way beyond this. Dogs aren't just dogs or friends anymore. They are family me...

Sisterhood Rises Up To Change Lives Forever

God is in the business of preserving families. It is His heart. It's my heart too. And, I'll unabashedly say here that I believe it should be everyone's heart. Everyone likes good news and I've got some for you today. If you are in doubt that God still speaks today and that He uses people to accomplish His work, I pray this will speak to you. Last night I was sitting in service at Celebration Church where we are pastors, and my husband was preaching. His message was about what we want to be remembered for in life, and he made the statement that we can't change our past but we can change the future.  In that moment, God spoke to me. He began to give me my next post for Lost Daughters, where I'm also a blogger. To be honest it's more than just another place where I blog. It's a sisterhood. A lifeline. A place that has come to mean a great deal to me, because of the amazing women who are there. During the service I basically had this entire post...
