What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Christmas Meme

Got this Christmas meme from my friend Pastor Leanne Weber...perfect for this "Fun Friday"...

Egg nog or hot chocolate? Oh, DEFS hot chocolate, are you kidding me? What a non-sensical question.

Colored lights on tree or white? Both. Currently I have three Christmas trees in my house. Next year we'll add a fourth. Right now I have one tree with colored, another with white, and another with blue. Not sure about next year's yet. There's a very good reason why I have several Christmas trees, and it's actually amazingly meaningful but I'll leave it for another post.

When do you put your decorations up? The day after Thanksgiving. No, I do not shop on Black Friday. That would drive me nuts. I'm too much of a homebody and don't like crowds, believe it or not.

What is your favorite holiday dish, exluding dessert? Oh wow, so many that it pains me to declare one fav, but as far as things at our Christmas table I would have to say my husband's cherry glaze ham.

Favorite holiday memory as a child? Not being able to get to sleep I was so excited and then waking up at the crack of dawn.

When did you learn the truth about Santa? What are you talking about? I have no idea what that question means.

Snow. Love it or dread it? Love it as long as I don't have to drive in it.

Can you ice skate? Yes! I love skating! Good grief, I'm a child of the 70's/80's!

Do you remember your favorite gift? Definitely a cassette tape recorder.

What's the most important thing about the holidays for you? Being with my family and experiencing all our favorite traditions. I love Christmas Eve Communion and our traditional chinese dinner together afterwards among many other things.

What is your favorite holiday dessert? Pie!!!!! Pumpkin and cherry being the favs.

What is your favorite tradition? Christmas Eve - communion & chinese

What is your favorite Christmas song? I'll be home for Christmas

Ever recycled a Christmas present? Hasn't everyone? It's just good stewardship.

did you get my question about the christmas eve communion? I don't remember a responce (and I know you have nothing better to do...lol) Oh and I intend to go eat Chineese on Christmas eve too. I love you guys!
I did not get your question to my knowledge. Did you email it or was it a comment on the blog? I am not sure. At any rate, what did you want to know?

We have Christmas Eve Communion at church. It is not a service but a time when families drop by between 5-8 pm for personal communion with the pastors. We serve the family or if they are single, the individual with personal communion and then pray a prayer of blessing over their family. We have the lights down in the sanctuary and a lot of candles lit and the trees on and such. And Christmas music playing low during the three hours...and our family and the rest of staff families come last at about 7:45 and we take communion last together and then go out for chinese. If there is anything else I can answer let me know. I am going Christmas shopping but will be back later to answer you.

Love you back!

WATCH OUT FOR THE
NEW FACEBOOK SCAM!!!

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. I alerted Jordan and we contacted his friend and his friend's parents and sister to get ahold of him immediately to take care of his account. Jordan said, "Mom, you need to put this on your blog and let people know about it so it won't happen to ...

Have you chosen a word of the year?

Selecting a personal word of the year has been my custom for many years. The word is my theme of the year and something for me to focus on, to build my faith and to grow. Each year I look for ways to remind myself of the theme…everything from a decorative sign with the word, to a piece of jewelry. This year my word is resilient.  All my life I have had to be resilient, and some years more than others.   I know it is this way with everyone to a degree. No one is immune to pain or problems. But frankly, some people are more resilient than others.   I have been studying those who are most resilient and trying to learn from them. With 2017 coming to a close,I have things to bounce back from. There are parts of my life I’m absolutely slaying and other parts that are out of my control. If I could control it, I would have already given everything I have to slaying it.   The challenges remaining are out of the realm of me being able to change them asid...
