What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

My Focus Today (Mother's Day)

"If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do well matters very much."
~Jackie Kennedy

Today I take time to dwell on how great it is to be a Mom. I think about that all the time, actually...not just today. I've done a lot of things in life but nothing compares to being a mother.

I have four kids...one in heaven waiting for me, three on earth.

I know, two of them are not exactly "kids" anymore.

The first is a 23 year old youth pastor.
The second is a 22 year old senior risk representative at Capital One.
The third is almost an adult.

Yet they will always be my kids...my babies.
I enjoy them so much.

This photo above is them sitting by the Christmas tree throwing packing peanuts in the air after opening their gifts.

As usual Jordan and Savanna threw them and Dustin sat there wondering why they were doing it.

I am so proud of them. Yes, they are caring human beings who have accomplished wonderful things. But most of all, they personally know and love God. They chase after Him, and they desire to make a difference in the world.

Anything else pales in comparison.

I have a lot of goals as a mother but my three most important ones are:

1) Love God - introduce them to Him, set an example of what it is to know Him and follow Him.
2) Love them unconditionally and show it to them openly.
3) Live real, open and honest - no secrets. Be the same at home as I am everywhere else.

I'm going to bring the message at church this morning: "Why Moms Are So Powerful." We're going to give away gifts and eat chocolate (right in the service!) and it's going to be really amazing. But the best part of my day will be having lunch with my children.

WATCH OUT FOR THE
NEW FACEBOOK SCAM!!!

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. I alerted Jordan and we contacted his friend and his friend's parents and sister to get ahold of him immediately to take care of his account. Jordan said, "Mom, you need to put this on your blog and let people know about it so it won't happen to ...

Sisterhood Rises Up To Change Lives Forever

God is in the business of preserving families. It is His heart. It's my heart too. And, I'll unabashedly say here that I believe it should be everyone's heart. Everyone likes good news and I've got some for you today. If you are in doubt that God still speaks today and that He uses people to accomplish His work, I pray this will speak to you. Last night I was sitting in service at Celebration Church where we are pastors, and my husband was preaching. His message was about what we want to be remembered for in life, and he made the statement that we can't change our past but we can change the future.  In that moment, God spoke to me. He began to give me my next post for Lost Daughters, where I'm also a blogger. To be honest it's more than just another place where I blog. It's a sisterhood. A lifeline. A place that has come to mean a great deal to me, because of the amazing women who are there. During the service I basically had this entire post...
