What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

How Much Do You Really Think About Your Spouse?

Larry and Me ~ Vacation in Boston, two years ago   Memorial Day is a day when our family typically stays at home. It's a day to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom in America.  I do remember and honor. Just saying, on this day of remembering our heroes, Larry and I choose to stay home rather than fight the crowds, trying to find a spot for a towel or chair on an overly-crowded beach.  Most people would not guess it but other than the context of work, I'm an introverted, stay-at-home type person at heart. I don't even like to go away for vacation, but make it a priority to do so because it's important to my husband. Larry asked me last week what I wanted to do for Memorial Day. It was no shock to him when I said, "Stay home." "What do you want to do at home?" was his response. I'm surprised he asked because I give the same response every time for 28 years: "Relax."  "What does relaxing look like...

3 Things (Guaranteed) to Get Your Husband or Wife's Attention

Listen to them without interrupting Who doesn't like to be listened to?  Let me tell you, people are CRAZY about being heard. And the amazing thing is, when you just do nothing but listen, somehow they turn it around and call you a genius. I kid you not. I have counseled people in the church and let them talk for fifty-five minutes straight without me saying a word. I've just listened. Handed them tissues to dry their tears. Then listened some more. The last five minutes of our time they finally say, "what do you think, PD?" I give feedback for a minute or two, and then they leave saying, "Oh my, this was totally amazing! It's changed my entire outlook. I feel like a different person..." Really, this happens... All. The. Time. I keep waiting for somebody to figure out, I'm really not that smart.  But they just keep falling for this listening trick, and think I'm brilliant. Listening works the same for your husband or wife. Just list...

Five Powerful Words to Say to Your Husband Today

Ask him this today. All five of these words together. It's so basic. But it's so needed. And you might not have done it in a long time. And he needs to hear it. Here goes:  "Want to make love tonight?" He wants to hear this question. And he wants you to follow through. Really follow through. And if he says yes...be just as excited as he is about it. He wants you to connect with him. And if you connect more than once, it's all the better. And if you look into his eyes and refuse to allow any other thought to distract you and stay focused on the two of you connecting, it'll be other-worldly. Try it. He'll love it. I promise.    *My husband will probably read this post and say, "Awesome of you to post this when you're away on a ministry trip, Deanna!" Don't worry babe, I'll ask you the question when I get home. :)

Five Powerful Words To Say To Your Wife Today

Ask her this today. All five of these words together. It's so basic. But it's so needed. And you might not have done it in a long time. And she needs to hear it. Here goes:  "How was your day today?" She wants to hear this question. And she wants you to listen. Really listen. And if she shares her problems, she may not want you to do anything about it. (I know, that's soooo frustrating!) She just wants you to listen. And if you sit close, and stare into her eyes intently, it's all the better. And if you connect with her and refuse to answer your phone or text the entire time, it's other-worldly. Try it. She'll love it. I promise.

I Want My Husband To Leave

What?! Are you reading my headline correctly? Yes. You are. I want my husband to leave. I want him to leave today. I want him to leave as soon as possible.  I want him to go away and not come back until Saturday night. Why, you might ask? Well... He's going on a men's retreat!!!  And I love when he does that. It's not that I don't love my husband in fact, it's because I love him so much that I want him to go on this men's retreat. He's going to come back home a better man, a better Christian, husband and father. He's going to come home strengthened and encouraged, and even more fired up. He's going to come home more appreciative of me. Why? Because hotel rooms are lonely without me even though he's with a bunch of guys. He's going to come home ready to eat a late dinner that I make. (He loves my cooking.) He's going to take a warm shower and then get in bed and snuggle up with my head on his chest while we watc...
