What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Saturday Night Special
One of my favorite recipes

In my book, JUGGLE, I give a lot of tips about setting ourselves up for success on  hectic days. One of my favorite things to do is to prepare something for breakfast the night before and wake up to it.

This recipe is one I found this past year and I love doing this on Saturday nights as it makes Sunday morning breakfast easy and super yummy. It's all ready when we wake up -- all we need to do is dish it up and eat it.

While the recipe calls for bananas I also sometimes use dried cherries. It calls for old fashioned oats, but sometimes I also use steel cut oats, which is one of my favorites. When I am making it with cherries, I omit the cinnamon and instead use a teaspoon of almond flavoring. FANTASTIC either way! Definitely be sure to use the non-stick cooking spray and note that sometimes I have to soak my crock pot for a while to get it clean afterwards, but it's worth it.

Overnight Banana Cinnamon Crock Pot Oatmeal

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups old-fashioned oats (Note: Not the quick cook/instant kind)
  • 3 ½ cups water
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 bananas, mashed
  • 1 banana, sliced for garnish (optional)

Preparation:

Using non-stick cooking spray, thoroughly spray the bottom and sides of the Crockpot insert.

Add the old-fashioned oats, water, milk, cinnamon and brown sugar to the Crockpot.  Mix well until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Cover and cook on the low setting for 8 hours.

Prior to serving, stir in the mashed bananas. Garnish with additional banana slices if desired.

WATCH OUT FOR THE
NEW FACEBOOK SCAM!!!

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. I alerted Jordan and we contacted his friend and his friend's parents and sister to get ahold of him immediately to take care of his account. Jordan said, "Mom, you need to put this on your blog and let people know about it so it won't happen to ...

Have you chosen a word of the year?

Selecting a personal word of the year has been my custom for many years. The word is my theme of the year and something for me to focus on, to build my faith and to grow. Each year I look for ways to remind myself of the theme…everything from a decorative sign with the word, to a piece of jewelry. This year my word is resilient.  All my life I have had to be resilient, and some years more than others.   I know it is this way with everyone to a degree. No one is immune to pain or problems. But frankly, some people are more resilient than others.   I have been studying those who are most resilient and trying to learn from them. With 2017 coming to a close,I have things to bounce back from. There are parts of my life I’m absolutely slaying and other parts that are out of my control. If I could control it, I would have already given everything I have to slaying it.   The challenges remaining are out of the realm of me being able to change them asid...
