They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
The photo above was worth about five thousand for me last night.
Yesterday morning my friend Torski Dobson-Arnold posted this photo on her Facebook wall and I told her it really spoke to me in a powerful way. I was stalling. Yes, it was Monday. But no excuse, I was still stalling.
I've been working on a few big writing projects. As much as I love to write, I had come to an impasse about a major chunk of one of the projects that desperately needed to get done. I put it off because there are still some unanswered questions regarding one section.
It would have been so much more appealing last night to just lay in bed and watch "bad TV" as my friend Kathryn calls it (for me this would include anything on Lifetime or my shows I tape from TLC)...not that everything on there is in bad taste of bad for you, mind you.
Torski's picture spurred me to make a move NOW.
So last night I wrote about 5,000 words and made a major move forward.
I feel so much better today!
If you're stalling, may I suggest 3 things to STOP so you can actually get started?
1) Stop thinking everything has to be perfect before you start.
A perfect day/time will never come! It's true. Seize the moment now.
2) Stop thinking you need to have all the answers before you start.
Nobody does, including you. Whatever it is that you've purposed in your heart to do, but haven't done, start it now even without knowing it all. Since you'll never know it all, today is as good as any to start.
3) Stop devaluing smaller achievements.
If it's a larger goal you're probably not going to get it done in a day or a night. Remember this is a process, not an end-all-achievement. Last night I wrote 5,000 words but just finished one section. Still, what I accomplished was significant. If you need to call 100 people to accomplish your networking goals and tonight you call 10 people, that's 10% of your goal accomplished! That's nothing to sneeze at. Every little bit helps and moves you further toward your goal.
You don't need to do the whole thing tonight, but what can you do in 15 minutes, 30 minutes, an hour, that will help you move further toward your goal?
