What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! 3 Types of Mentors Everybody Needs


Mentoring happens in different many forms.

I've been mentored by people who are dead. For a long time.

By this I don't infer that they have no personality. They are truly dead as far as moving on from their earthly body to their heavenly home. I am mentored as I devour the works of Oswald Chambers and A.B. Simpson. I learn through reading their timeless truths and applying them to my current situations.

I am mentored by people who are still alive that I will probably never meet in person. Individuals like Joyce Meyer who are stellar communicators. 

I am mentored by people like Jeff Goins whose blog I read daily. I haven't met Jeff in person but he has taught me more than a lot of people I have met in person. He's also answered every piece of mail I've ever written to him and is a hero to me. He's experiencing a lot of wild success in his life right now and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy or someone more deserving.

The most important mentoring I receive is up close and personal. 

In times past people pretty much had one mentor that walked with them through their journey of life and was the central person who helped shape them. Today most people have different mentors for different things. I'm no different. I have mentors for writing, ministry, business, wellness, marriage, parenting and more. 

I'm so grateful for all of them. The most important thing to me is knowing how to treat them. Kimberly Jones said it really well in her guest post yesterday: "It’s important to choose a mentor wisely, but it’s even more important to keep this person properly cared for so they’ll stick around."  

Tomorrow I'm going to address one of the most important things you need to realize about your mentor that most people don't think about. Lack of understanding about this has the potential to destroy your relationship very quickly.

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. Have you chosen a word of the year?

Selecting a personal word of the year has been my custom for many years. The word is my theme of the year and something for me to focus on, to build my faith and to grow. Each year I look for ways to remind myself of the theme…everything from a decorative sign with the word, to a piece of jewelry. This year my word is resilient.  All my life I have had to be resilient, and some years more than others.   I know it is this way with everyone to a degree. No one is immune to pain or problems. But frankly, some people are more resilient than others.   I have been studying those who are most resilient and trying to learn from them.
