What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Some people just get ideas, others actually run with them

Which kind of person are you?

We'll talk about that more in a minute.  But first...yesterday was an interesting day for me.  I spent most of my day at CTN, the Christian Television Station in Largo, as a guest on Homekeepers, with my friend and host, Arthelene Rippy.  She called a few weeks ago and asked if I would come over to be interviewed about my life coaching program for women.  We had a delightful time talking about it and she already told me she's having me back on to talk about my new book as soon as it comes out.  :)  Yay!  (Can you tell, practically all I'm thinking about is this book?!  I can't say too much right now other than to say some MAJOR steps forward have happened this week.)

I struggled yesterday with a mild headache during the interview and by the time it was over and I was going back to the church office I had a full blown migraine.  I almost never miss church and last night my husband took my sermon and preached it while I laid on the couch in his office in the dark, praying a headache away.

I think I'm just going too fast and too hard with a million things spinning, namely burning the midnight oil on my book proposal.  There are a bunch of revisions to do right now but it had to wait 24 hours while I rested last night.

Back to getting things done...yesterday during the inteview Arthelene was talking to me about several of the projects that I've founded and directed.  We discussed everything from founding the Pastoring Partners Network, to the young women's mentoring program I led at our church, to the life coaching program and she said, "you know Deanna, a lot of people just get a lot of ideas, but don't necessarily follow through with them.  You are a person who gets an idea, and you actually run with it."  I told her that yes, this would characterize me pretty well.  Not only do I get a lot of ideas, but I try to do them as quickly as possible before anyone else can capitalize on them.  I realize ideas are hot property.  That's why I've stayed up all night at times working tirelessly to make ideas reality.  Back when I started PPN there was NOTHING else of it's kind.  I knew it was only a matter of time before somebody did something like PPN but I wanted to be the first.  Now there are hundreds of organizations like PPN.

Ideas have so much potential but they are just that, only potential until they are acted upon.

I've never read a book exactly like the one I'm going to write at this time.  I've always wanted to, but nobody has written one with the laser focus mine has.  I beleive I'm the person in the world to write this book.  I do know it's only a matter of time before somebody else thinks of the same thing.  I want to do it, and do it first.  This is what drives me to push forward and get it done and why it kind of drove me crazy last night to have a migraine.  First because I had to miss Fusion, and I hate being away from our church family.  Second, because the possibility of writing revisions were out last night.

Today's a new day.  It's a day to run with a God-idea and get things done.

What idea are you going to run with?  I believe God gives everyone ideas, but few actually turn them into reality.  It might be best if you don't answer here in the comments,if your idea needs to be confidential until you unleash it.  Just consider the question...is there an idea you need to act upon?

WATCH OUT FOR THE
NEW FACEBOOK SCAM!!!

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. I alerted Jordan and we contacted his friend and his friend's parents and sister to get ahold of him immediately to take care of his account. Jordan said, "Mom, you need to put this on your blog and let people know about it so it won't happen to ...

Have you chosen a word of the year?

Selecting a personal word of the year has been my custom for many years. The word is my theme of the year and something for me to focus on, to build my faith and to grow. Each year I look for ways to remind myself of the theme…everything from a decorative sign with the word, to a piece of jewelry. This year my word is resilient.  All my life I have had to be resilient, and some years more than others.   I know it is this way with everyone to a degree. No one is immune to pain or problems. But frankly, some people are more resilient than others.   I have been studying those who are most resilient and trying to learn from them. With 2017 coming to a close,I have things to bounce back from. There are parts of my life I’m absolutely slaying and other parts that are out of my control. If I could control it, I would have already given everything I have to slaying it.   The challenges remaining are out of the realm of me being able to change them asid...
