What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! True Church Stories - #12

Years ago my husband was wanting to make some changes in the Sunday School department in the church we pastored in Maryland.  The Sunday School Superintendent had been doing the job a long time and was pretty set on what should happen, and was reluctant at first to go in the new direction he was proposing.  They went back and forth over it for quite a while and finally, exasperated and wanting to point out her experience  she said, "Pastor, I'll have you know that I was doing Sunday School when you were still in diapers!!!"  He immediately shot back, "Yes, and I'll still be doing Sunday School when you're back in diapers.  Let's make the change..."

Ha ha ha ha!  My husband can be SO funny.

Thankfully this lady was a tremendous sport and laughed over this and  continued to be one of the most loyal, supportive people we've ever had the privilege of pastoring.  This is probably why he felt it was safe to make such a joke in the first place.  One thing about Larry that I will have to say is, with rare exceptions he has a very good sense of discerning who is safe (or not) to make a comment like this to.  (Who can take a joke, and who can't.)  Me on the other hand...

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. I alerted Jordan and we contacted his friend and his friend's parents and sister to get ahold of him immediately to take care of his account. Sisterhood Rises Up To Change Lives Forever

God is in the business of preserving families. It is His heart. It's my heart too. And, I'll unabashedly say here that I believe it should be everyone's heart. Everyone likes good news and I've got some for you today. If you are in doubt that God still speaks today and that He uses people to accomplish His work, I pray this will speak to you. Last night I was sitting in service at Celebration Church where we are pastors, and my husband was preaching. His message was about what we want to be remembered for in life, and he made the statement that we can't change our past but we can change the future.  In that moment, God spoke to me.
