What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! Good news bearers in a bad news world


 "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" 
Isaiah 52:7

I try to think positive everyday.  I do this despite the fact that I usually receive at least one piece of bad news a day.  Usually there's at least one e-mail in my box that says that somebody won't be able to do what they said they would do, or a voice mail that lets me know something I thought was going to happen isn't happening, or a text of the same nature.  Sometimes somebody requests a meeting where they deliver bad news.  Whatever the case I'm sure you hate bad news just as much as I do.  Even though I'm a pastor and deal with this because I lead a congregation I know I'm not the only one who gets at least a shred of bad news everyday.   Some of you probably don't want to go to your mailbox because you don't want to see your bills which represent bad news.  You get the picture...

So the fact is - people everywhere get bad news everyday.  The other day the Lord spoke to me about how important it is for Jesus followers to be the bearers of good news.   First, we have the honor of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ - who He is and what He came to do.  Second, the bearer of good news of other kinds which also shine the light of Christ as we communicate.  My greatest moments in life are when I come on the scene and say something like:

"How can I help you?"
"God sent me to you to tell you..."
"Let me put your mind at ease..."
"I want to tell you about something amazing!"
"You're going to love this!"
"I'm about to solve your problem..."
"It's my privilege to help you..."
"I've got it covered..."

To give someone good news in a bad news world is one of the most amazing things ever!  Are we sharing good news on our blog, our facebook, our twitter, and most of all through our life and our attitude up close and personal?  One thing about being a good news bearer is that people love to see you coming and hate to see you leave!

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. I alerted Jordan and we contacted his friend and his friend's parents and sister to get ahold of him immediately to take care of his account. Have you chosen a word of the year?

Selecting a personal word of the year has been my custom for many years. The word is my theme of the year and something for me to focus on, to build my faith and to grow. Each year I look for ways to remind myself of the theme…everything from a decorative sign with the word, to a piece of jewelry. This year my word is resilient.  All my life I have had to be resilient, and some years more than others.   I know it is this way with everyone to a degree. No one is immune to pain or problems. But frankly, some people are more resilient than others.   I have been studying those who are most resilient and trying to learn from them.
