What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! Scenes from our New Year's Eve shindig

We had about 50 or so people over for a New Year's Eve party as we normally do.  It varies how many we have over and we would have liked to have had more but you know you have to cut off the guest list at some point.  So this was our limit this year. 

I made a roaster full of cabbage rolls and Larry made perogies.  We always have a "taste of Pittsburgh" to bring in the new year.  And, Larry and Savanna and I all wore our Steelers shirts.  Michele is trying to turn over a new leaf with cooking this year and actually learn how to do some things.  She came a few hours early to help Larry do the perogies and learn how.  She did a great job!  Everyone brought a dish to share and we had some amazing stuff here.  Best part of all was the conversation and loads of laughter.

YAY Michele! You go girl! You all look like you had a fantastic party and a great time! My quesetion...where in the world do you put all the cars without your neighbors complaining? Looks like fun!

They park on the street. We've lived here five years and have had the police called once. Most of the neighbors understand and would never report it, as we all want to have special gatherings. I wouldn't be upset with my neighbors, and I hope they have the same courtesy. It's not like we do this every day.

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. I alerted Jordan and we contacted his friend and his friend's parents and sister to get ahold of him immediately to take care of his account. Have you chosen a word of the year?

Selecting a personal word of the year has been my custom for many years. The word is my theme of the year and something for me to focus on, to build my faith and to grow. Each year I look for ways to remind myself of the theme…everything from a decorative sign with the word, to a piece of jewelry. This year my word is resilient.  All my life I have had to be resilient, and some years more than others.   I know it is this way with everyone to a degree. No one is immune to pain or problems. But frankly, some people are more resilient than others.   I have been studying those who are most resilient and trying to learn from them.
