What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! Party prep & fun with friends...


Yesterday we had a good time with our friends Mike & Donna Gibson and Andy & Jill Brasfield as we prepared for Mike's party.   We ate lunch at the Gibson's and told a bunch of funny stories around the table (favorite pastime) and then headed to the America's Packer Museum (location of party) to do a little bit of decorating, the rest of which will be finished today. 


We got a private tour of the museum, seeing fascinating cars, two of which were just used for the movie, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and the hearse which was used for "The Godfather."  We were up close to these cars, actually touching them and could even open them up to look inside!   It was awesome.  One car was worth 6.5 million dollars.  I fell in love with a Packard convertible that was black with pink accents. 


After decorating we went over to Woodland Cemetary, which is one of Mike's favorite places, where he also volunteers as a tour guide.  If I still lived in Dayton, I'd hang out there a lot too.  It's a beautiful place.  This is something Mike & I both have in common...we enjoy walking through cemetaries.  (In fact, one of my stories published in Chocolate for a Woman's Courage was about one of my walks in the cemetary.)   The Wright Brothers are buried at Woodland, as well as quite a few other famous people.  The famous writer Erma Bombeck is from Dayton and she is buried there.  A huge boulder sits by her grave.  This was in her neighbor's yard and she used to always go there to sit on top of it and write.  Her husband had the boulder moved and put on her grave when she passed away.  I was most excited about sitting on top of the rock to have my picture taken, realizing that this famous author had sat there before to get her inspiration.  Maybe I'll get a boulder for my back yard...

After the tour we came back home for a little bit and then headed out to Quaker Steak & Lube for dinner.  I loved it!  We wanted Mike to do karaoke (and I would have done it too) but he wasn't feeling too good by night's end.  I think all this excitement just overwhelmed him today, so we needed to head back home. 

Tonight's the party and I we will probably get back way too late tonight to post any photos but will asap sometime on Sunday.  I'm just so glad we can be here to share this special weekend!

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Thankfully I had just heard on the news the day before that this was a new facebook scam where people were hacking into people's accounts and contacting their friends to ask for money, saying that they were in dangerous or dire situations. I alerted Jordan and we contacted his friend and his friend's parents and sister to get ahold of him immediately to take care of his account. Sisterhood Rises Up To Change Lives Forever

God is in the business of preserving families. It is His heart. It's my heart too. And, I'll unabashedly say here that I believe it should be everyone's heart. Everyone likes good news and I've got some for you today. If you are in doubt that God still speaks today and that He uses people to accomplish His work, I pray this will speak to you. Last night I was sitting in service at Celebration Church where we are pastors, and my husband was preaching. His message was about what we want to be remembered for in life, and he made the statement that we can't change our past but we can change the future.  In that moment, God spoke to me. He began to give me my next post for Lost Daughters, where I'm also a blogger. To be honest it's more than just another place where I blog. It's a sisterhood. A lifeline.
