What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Second mile living and the supernatural

So often a solution is within our reach and we just don't take time to utilize it on behalf of another person. There are a lot of ills in the world.  Most of them stay that way because people aren't willing to go the extra mile. Here's the truth in a nutshell.  It takes SO LITTLE to be above average. It takes a relatively small amount of effort to make a huge difference in another person's life. There are no traffic jams on the second mile. Hebrews 13:16 "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." If you really want your life to take on a whole new meaning just step out and commit to do one thing for somebody, every day, that is within your power to do.   The cool thing I've found is that when I do this, God steps in and adds His supernatural power.   All of a sudden, miracles start happening.   This is the supernatural life.

Potpourri Monday

My mind is going in so many directions today.  I didn't have peace about one thought to blog about today.  When in doubt, I don't post something I'm uncomfortable with or something that I'm  just not ready to post.  However, everyone knows I blog everyday without fail and you can ALWAYS count on SOMETHING at deannashrodes.com. So this is going to be a personal update from my weekend and a few other things happening. I'm moving slow today.  My foot burn has caught up with me.  Please pray! Not to be graphic but the top layer of skin came off last night and it's hurting like crazy.  I'm going to have to keep it wrapped up for a while with a gauze pad and some neosporin.  I'm really hoping it doesn't scar.   Had I not been taking off for North Carolina just hours after I got burned I probably would have gone to the doctors to get it treated.  A friend at church told me yesterday she thinks it's a second degree burn.  I'm be...

WOW, WOW, WOW...we GET to do this!!!

Whether you are teaching a Sunday School class of three year olds today, or you are giving a devotional at a homeless shelter, or you are the pastor of a church of twenty people, or the leader of a mega church, please realize the HUGE honor it is to speak to ANYBODY. God has entrusted US.  Does that blow your mind like it does mine?  I'm tellin' you, I never lose the wonder that God gives me opportunity to talk to anybody. When I'm a little bit more rested I'll blog about my weekend in North Carolina.  There's no rest yet --  after flying in last night, unpacking and catching up with my family,  I have service at Celebration this morning.  Then Larry and I leave to minister this evening at Harvest Assembly in Lakeland, FL.  It's Pastor Appreciation Sunday for our dear friends Pastors Keith & Joy Conley and they've asked us to come and speak for this special evening in their honor. Tomorrow night is our October Women's Connection at Cel...

Who made this mess?

One of my clients that I've been coaching sent me this video and knew I'd just love it and she was right!  Oh my stars.  It's hysterical!  I can so relate, having two dogs that LOVE to make a mess. Enjoy and have a beautiful Saturday!

Your contribution to the world

"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life." - Steve Jobs 1955-2011 So Steve Jobs passed away this week and lots of people are talking about it, of course.  He was a remarkable man who changed our world forever.   Just a few hours after his death I found the above quote and started thinking about it.  A lot of people have wrestled with this, including myself.  Believe it or not, I lived quite a number of years of my life doing what other people wanted me to do versus what I'm called to do, or long to do.  There are various reasons for this, but that is neither here nor there.  The point is, I understand. The reasons we continue doing what we're not meant to do are so varied -- finances, cultural expectations, relationships and more.  When people like Steve Jobs who have achieved so much pass away, it gives us pause to think about our own contribution(s) to the world.  I know what I want my greatest contribution...

Leavin' on a jet plane...

Taking off this morning for North Carolina, again!  Get ready, get ready, get ready for a LIFE CHANGING weekend, ladies of NC! My sniffling, sneezing and burns are under control.  And even if they weren't I'd still be going.  (Burns?  Yes.  I poured 2 quarts of boiling water into a pitcher that exploded on me yesterday, down my thigh and onto my foot.  Lovely.)  I just have to laugh.  The crazier stuff gets before I leave the more I know God's fixin' to rock the place!!! I'm not surprised that stuff like this happens when I leave to preach somewhere...it always does.  Not the same things of course, but a different array of distractions. There are always a lot of them and then I get to the place and God moves.  It's just the way things are.  I know my role is to press through no matter what and GET THERE. Yesterday when I burned myself I just threw a beach towel over the two quarts of water on the floor (so the dogs wouldn't ge...

On your mark, GET SET, go!

Today is a get set day. I love "normal" days although I have few of them. The majority of days contain things I never expected. I have learned that when God is getting ready to do something supernatural in or through me, He gives me a quiet day at the house to"get set" for what is to come.  I didn't expect just HOW He accomplished that this time. On my way to North Carolina last weekend, my plane was this itty bitty one that was really packed, ever seat filled.  Sitting next to me in the next to last row was a man who hacked, coughed and dripped from his nose the whole time.  He apologized but what could be done?  Nothing really, although I did wash my hands real good when I got to Raleigh. Hand washing doesn't solve everything although I'm sure it helps.  I was fine the whole time I was in NC, thank the Lord, but as soon as I got back I started to feel stranger than normal. :)  By Sunday night I had a full blown cold. My husband has heard me ...
