What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Identity theft:
Just say NO.

You've gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,  know when to walk away...and know when to run... you never count your money, when you're sittin' at the table there'll be time enough for countin', when the dealin's done."   ~ Kenny Rogers I don't take walking away from a relationship lightly whether it be personal or business. Last week, I had to walk away from one that could probably be characterized as 80% business and 20% personal.  (I tend to be real personable with those I do business with, thus the characterization.) There's no thrill for me in dealing with stuff like this, in fact I loathe going through it.  Arriving at this decision wasn't a hasty thing and involved introspection and wise counsel.   If you have to be somebody different in a personal or business setting than the person God has made you to be in order for the relationship to survive, it's time to end it.  Nothing that causes yo...

It's worth it!!!

Almost every time I speak on the subject of marriage, I face relentless attacks from the enemy, designed to get me to stop.  I mean CRAZY stuff happens like you wouldn't believe.  I've been tempted to quit speaking on the subject because the fire of various trials got so hot.  But I've always pressed through and been so blessed that I did.  For some reason the Lord has really had his hand upon me sharing on this particular topic.  Believe me, I don't do so with an attitude of superiority or having it all together, but instead come from the place of one who has needed a lot of help in this area , and still have to work real hard on it. Once again God showed me through many testimonies from this weekend how pressing through was worth it.   At the close of the conference, a woman approached me and said, "I just want you to know how your message changed my life this weekend."   She went on to say that she didn't know what the topics for t...

Contagious Church

I love, love, love how this happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This weekend I was in Orlando speaking for the Pen-Florida Hope Tour ,   and I had taken the life coaching ladies with me.  There was a Friday  night "Women in Worship" night before the big event the next day.  A few of us decided to go up early on Friday night and experience it.   Afterwards, we went out for dessert.  We landed at Denny's being that they are open late and 24/7 and we knew we wouldn't get kicked out, well...at least not due to time constraints.  :)   (Although there are 18 life coachers this year, only 7 are pictured above at Denny's, and Lourdes took the photo.) We told the hostess that we'd want to sit where we could be loud if possible, so they put us in a seating area that had no people.  It's a good thing because we roared with laughter so often it would have been a serious disturbance to those around us ot...

Better Day

It's a better day today.  Thanks for your prayers. I'm in Orlando today speaking at a conference.  Looking forward to an amazing day.  I'll try to blog tonight when I get home.

Bleech

So I've had another post I had written that was ready to publish this morning and it was excellently crafted if I do say so myself.  But,  I can't bring myself to post it because it's just not true to where I'm at this morning. I can't post what I really think today.  It's a day for private journaling and saying a lot of things that would be extremely unwise should I speak them aloud. But I blog everyday here.  Without fail.  365.  Rain or shine.  Sick or well.  Happy or sad. So here it is.  I'm leaving this afternoon to speak in Orlando this weekend.  I would love to start driving, throw my cell phone out a window into a ditch,  cruise down the road for however long I felt like it, then stop and sit in the middle of nowhere for days.  During this time I would scarf down a plate of my mother in law's pork chops with gravy and mashed potatoes, and top it off with a big piece of warm pie....

I thought I'd never

...have the courage to intensely invest up close and personal in a young adult's life again (besides my own 3 kids that I birthed physically).  Becca Dearborn came into my life, cracking the protective walls that surrounded my heart,  and gave me no choice but to give her generation a chance again due to her irresistibility. (I think this might actually work out without me having to go to therapy when all is said and done.)       I also never imagined I'd ever have an intense desire to be in two countries at the same time.  Even with going on other missions trips, I never understood how some people would talk about a place that had captivated them and ache for it when they aren't there.  But this is the way I feel about Africa.  And thankfully, I won't have to wait long to go back for my next trip! I'm going back in three months!  This is my first time to talk about it here on the blog, ...

Before you ask me, stop and think...

"Pastor, I listed you as a reference on my resume..." "Pastor, in my interview, I gave them your name as one of my references to call...is that okay?" "Pastor, I was wondering if you could recommend my business to others..." I have heard this countless times from people in 23 years of pastoring and I think people should know before they do that, they need to consider -- Have they shown integrity in personal matters? Have they shown integrity in church matters? Have they been faithful in their attendance? If they are a ministry leader have they been faithful and completed their ministry assignments on time and with excellence? If I do know their work habits or history as far as their job goes, is it also favorable? Before you ask your pastor to be a reference for you, it would be a good idea to honestly consider these questions.  Yes, your pastor loves you.  The fact that they love you is not incompatible with the fact that they do...
