What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I find that what Seth is saying here is absolutely true, with one disclaimer. For Christian leaders, spiritual disciplines must always be first. Before we started i...

Blast from the past

I don't have energy to blog this morning as I usually do. I am going for the ultrasound this morning, so thanks for your prayers, but I thought I would just post two "blast from the past" photos that my dear friend Janice Shehan just sent me this past week to uplift my spirits. Here they are...the kids back when we lived in Maryland...this is right after Savanna chopped her hair off and the stylist had to try to make something of it. Notice Dustin had just gone a little crazy with highlights and gotten himself a new 'do too! Jordan was just his same chillin' self. And... Here is Savanna in curlers before she had chopped all the hair off. This had to be a Saturday night because she always wore curlers on Sat night in prep for Sunday. Those were the days.

Update

Thank you all for praying. I got a doctor's appointment this afternoon and they did a thorough examination in the office, plus sent me for much blood work. I go for an ultrasound in the morning. The doctor is concerned as I am about the symptoms and determined to get to the bottom of it quickly. I got almost no sleep last night I was in such pain. I couldn't wait to get up this morning and just get there to hopefully get relief. Unfortunately as we don't know what it is yet there is no treatment but the doctor has asked that I do nothing and stay in bed. So here I am. Maddie has been napping with me. Please keep praying. I really need a breakthrough. Will blog more when I know more.

Weekend Wrap Up

First things first ~ here's a photo of us with Madeline before church this morning. I did some special things with my family this weekend ~ going to see Marley & Me (what a great movie!), and getting my clearance Christmas tree (and a bonus one that was a surprise from Todd and Bonnie!) We got things for 2009 Christmas on 75% off and it was awesome. My new tree that I got will have the Martha Stewart Snowfall collection on it. I am so thrilled. I got these things for literally a few dollars. Amazing. I am so excited. Have to be honest as I always am here on the blog that today was a difficult day. I have been feeling so poorly it was all I could do to get through the services and we had two today. My day was -- worship/choir rehearsal, teaching SS, morning worship, choir rehearsal later in the afternoon again, and then evening prayer service. By the time it was over I felt like I could hardly stand. I made a decision tonight not to wait until Wednesday to go to the doctors. ...

Maddie, Maddie, Maddie

Maddie photos and busy day

Today is a day to get a pile of stuff done around the house, do last minute preparations for church tomorrow, and to meet up with our friends Pastor Keith & Joy Conley for a meal. We haven't gotten together for a while and they've been in Indiana for Christmas and New Year. It will be good to fellowship. So busy today...not a lot of time to blog but enjoy these photos I took of Maddie last night as she was laying on the blanket that was over me as I rested. She wasn't feeling well as she had just had her shot and was real mellow. Here you can see her little pink t-shirt we got her yesterday.

Fun Friday

Photo I took of Madeline yesterday as she was taking a snooze on our bed. Isn't she adorable? Today was a good day off. I needed it. I know I always say that about every Friday that comes but the truth of the matter is each and every week without fail I really need it. Today I woke Jordan up for school and went back to bed. About half an hour later Madeline woke up to go out and was hungry and Larry got up and took care of her and then got Savanna up for school. I slept til' 10:30. Heaven. That's what that is. I got up and went to get a fill and then got home right in time to help Larry take Madeline to the vet for her initial shots. The vet ended up deciding to do just one shot and one medication to prevent worms by mouth since she is still too young for all of her initial shots. She's just going to be seven weeks old starting tomorrow. I was amazed at how she acted at the vet. She laid there totally still while getting her shot and didn't even yelp or flinch or an...

The Contentment Crisis ~ teaching notes #1

Yesterday I gave my initial thoughts on this topic here on the blog . You might want to refer to yesterday's post first. The following is the manuscript of my preaching notes from last night for those who were present at the service who asked for them, or those of you who read the blog who may be interested. Here we go... I am going to speak on this subject for the next two Wednesday nights, because I think it’s that important to give two weeks to the issue and I am not going to rush teaching it or our discussion in small groups. We need to process this fully. So with that, let's go to... 1 Timothy 1:6-8 – “Godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. “ A fulfilled life is not necessarily one that is filled with the excesses that we may desire for ourselves and maybe even for those we love. It is, however a life that is filled with all we need....
