What To Do First to Make a Profit

The PF Women Team at our Annual Team Retreat  ~ 2018 Today on Seth Godin's blog, he said: It's tempting to decide to make a profit first, then invest in training, people, facilities, promotion, customer service and most of all, doing important work. In general, though, it goes the other way. Yes, it does. If you are waiting to make a profit before you do these things, in my experience you're  not going to make a profit. So many organizations, ministries and churches are struggling with financial issues. I know your pain. As anyone who follows our story knows, our ministry was in a ton of debt four years ago when I came on as director.  Since that time, we've gotten out of debt and turned a profit every year.  God has done amazing things through out team, for which we give Him the glory! I've been in the customer service **cough** people pleasing business way too long...

It's gotten in my head way too much and I think I just might need another vacation.  I'm starting to get loopy.  ("Just starting?" some of you are thinking...)

What do you get when you mix being a pastor, a pastor's wife, and a job coach working  for a re-employment  firm that is absolutely  second to none in customer service?  Well, I will tell you this, if you do it for any amount of time successfully you are, as a general rule, positive in your communication.  You may not "feel" it all the time, and some days may be a huge challenge, but you learn how to be a positive communicator. 

Monday I realized how programmed on "auto-pilot" I just might be when it comes to this. 

I had a few personal items on my agenda Monday when getting back from the cruise.  One was confirming a dentist appointment, the other making a call to my gynecologist's office to schedule my yearly exam.  I called and spoke with the receptionist giving her all of my information and she scheduled an appointment for me and then confirmed the date.  Then without even THINKING about it (I assure you I wasn't really thinking!) I said to her, "Oh wonderful! I'm looking forward to it.  See you then!  Have a most blessed day.  Goodbye."

I hung up the phone and was suddenly startled by realizing what I just said.  Did I just tell the receptionist at the GYN office that  I was looking forward to my exam?  Yes..  What in the world was I thinking?  I wasn't.  I was just on autopilot, like I am for a lot of my conversations.  The ministry, and the business world, require excellent manners even when others don't treat you the same.  I've been well trained to speak with well controlled, positive responses even when people (customers or church people) don't always treat me kindly.  I guess it seeped out in a weird way this week to say the least.  There are some meetings I don't have to tell people I'm looking forward to.  It's okay to not get excited over a pap smear.

Hopefully satan will not send me an invitation for lunch this week.

Ah, yes - the "autopilot" phenomenon...the reason I sometimes apologize to furniture when I bump into it! ROFL!!!!!

In the early hours of this morning, Jordan got home from work and checked his facebook and instantly received an IM from a friend who claimed to be in London, having been just robbed at gunpoint. Understandably Jordan was very concerned. His friend said he needed Jordan to send him some money immediately, as he was stranded. Jordan immediately alerted his father and I of the situation, thinking it was real and his friend needed help and wanted to know what he could or should do to reach out. Sisterhood Rises Up To Change Lives Forever

God is in the business of preserving families. It is His heart. It's my heart too. And, I'll unabashedly say here that I believe it should be everyone's heart. Everyone likes good news and I've got some for you today. If you are in doubt that God still speaks today and that He uses people to accomplish His work, I pray this will speak to you. Last night I was sitting in service at Celebration Church where we are pastors, and my husband was preaching. His message was about what we want to be remembered for in life, and he made the statement that we can't change our past but we can change the future.  In that moment, God spoke to me.
