Dustin is 19 today! He took the day off of work. I'm so glad...he needs a break. He is consumed with working and going to school and it was nice that he had the day off.
He went out last night after work with his friends to Starbucks. This morning he slept in real late. (Chip off the ol' block!) And then he...went to the movies! The management at the Cobb remark that he 'lives' there as well as works there. He absolutely LOVES working there!!!
He asked me for his favorite meal tonight so I made Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, broccoli with cheese, and biscuits. I also made a very special birthday cake. His favorite is chocolate cake with chocolate icing. (Yep, a chip off the ol' block with that too!) I decided to do a variation of the white chocolate cake (Lucretia Noble's recipe) that I made last week. I made that same cake but just switched all of the chocolate ingredients dark chocolate instead. Yum!

In other news, Savanna made the honor roll this last quarter! Oh what a difference a school makes... and, I got a call from her language arts teacher today. She was chosen for the "writing academy" at her school which means she is now part of a group of students who are good at writing and the program is to help them hone this skill and go to the next level. Three students from school were chosen. She will be out of some of her other classes once a month to do writing academy and then make up the other work later. I am so excited for her to be a part of this!
And finally in other news, Jordan is playing varsity soccer this year on the high school team. He's excited and so are we. And thankfully it has all worked out to far with his work and church schedules as well.
I did say finally, but you know what it means when a preacher says that......NOTHING! Larry and I are finishing packing tonight and preparing to leave early in the morning to head for Phoenix. I am so looking forward to this trip. I'll be attending the Nat'l Women in Ministry Conference there and be a table leader/facilitator of one of the small groups. Yay! We're going to have so much fun but I am planning on come back even more filled up and fired up than I already am about what God is doing and wants to do! Shout now, somebody...I'm actually waking up in the mornings happy now!
Still working on Africa messages...it's not that I'm lazy (anybody who knows me more than 5 minutes knows that) however I don't write just to write...I want each message to be completely crafted by the Holy Spirit, not just something I concoct. I could just whip up something but I don't want to...I want God to just breathe it into me and then let it come out on the paper.
By the way I'm still collecting gifts to take to Africa, to the women. Right now I'd estimate I have about 550 gifts. My goal is AT LEAST 1,000. I know you're wondering how I'm ever going to get them there but keep in mind what I'm collecting are small and lightweight like earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and scarves. I'm also including some other goodies like chapsticks, lip glosses, etc. These are "extra special" treats these ladies in the region of Africa I'm going to never get while us American ladies probably have untold numbers of these things. If anyone would like to help me take some things to Africa please mail to: Northside AG (c/o Pastor Deanna) 16235 Lake Magdalene Blvd, Tampa, FL 33613. Every little bit helps and even if you just sent one chapstick or one bracelet keep in mind that is one more African lady getting a gift who wouldn't have otherwise received one.
